I went to the « Studiolo » exhibition by Jean Julien at the Mima museum in Brussels the 27th October. I was shocked about the colours because they were flashy and it great to look at. Also, the first room of the exhibition was cold because it was in black and white and I didn’t like it, I think it is unpersonal. So, I really like this first exhibition because I have learned a lot about this artist and his art work.
My favorite works
I really like this piece with its multiple ocean paintings. They make me think of vacations and surfing them, they make me think of freedom.
In addition, I really like the contrast of the blue-colored works and the black walls.
I really like this painting by Jean Julien, because it reminds me of a lot of things. The landscape makes me think of summer vacations in the south of France and the child with his grandfather makes me think of the afternoons I spent with my grandparents.
My least favorite works
Even if I really liked Jean Julien’s exhibition, I nevertheless found that the first room we entered was very cold. Everything is in black and white and the technique used seems less elaborate to me, which is why it makes it the work that I like the least.
